Thea Hayes trained as a Nurse in Sydney in 1959. A year later she was catapulted out of the safety of her city life into the unknown world of the Outback.
Thea knew nothing of the place she was soon to call home, Wave Hill Station in the Northern Territory, the second largest property in the world under one management. It covered four million acres!
With nervous excitement, Thea accepted the job and flew to the Northern Territory where her life was about to change dramatically.
This is a story of growing up, falling up in love and finding your home.

Spectacular Book
A wonderful read. Enchanting stories of the outback.
I would highly recommend reading this book, regardless of an interest in nursing or the medical field.

living in the outback,having children.
This was never boring,loved it
An Outback Nurse
This brings back so many memories of living in the outback although those of us who lived there never thought of it as an isolated existence. We made out own fun and it didn't matter what the colour of your skin was, friendship was the first priority. Wish I could take my grownup children and go back in time and have them experience such a wonderful, albeit, hard life. Love this book it made me feel I was living my younger years all over again. Congratulations on such a well balanced, unbiased yet truthful written story of those uncomplicated times. Trish T
