The best sci-fi has a sense of awe about both far-flung possibility and the way things actually work. Ted Chiang’s short stories imagine a mathematician driven to despair by his work; the lives of stoneworkers constructing the Tower of Babel; and a future where humans are obsolete yet safe from extinction. “Story of Your Life” (the basis of the movie Arrival) introduces a linguist whose communication with aliens upends her conception of free will. Chiang’s crisp, sly writing is concerned not just with the fate of humankind but with how we treat each other while we’re here.

Interesting stories
A good collection of stories covering a wide range. Exploring time, god, perception, one of which has been made into a movie. Everything you’d expect from a short story collection.
