PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Greaney once again pumps new life into familiar thriller conventions in his third Gray Man novel starring ex-CIA agent Courtland Gentry (after On Target). Courtland travels to Mexico for the funeral of a friend who once saved his life in Laos, Eduardo "Eddie" Gamboa. A major in the federal police, Eddie was killed while attempting to assassinate Daniel Alonzo de la Rocha (aka DLR), "the leader of los Trajes Negros, the Black Suits, one of the nation's leading criminal drug and kidnapping organizations." Eddie's survivors include his pregnant wife, Elena, and his attractive sister, Laura. Courtland is immediately smitten with Laura, and when DLR sends a band of killers to murder Elena, Courtland organizes the defense. The good guys are soon on the run, closely pursued by DLR and his henchmen. An extremely capable warrior with multiple tricks and tradecraft, Courtland has a complicated past and a long list of mortal enemies, so readers can look forward to plenty of dangerous adventures.

Excellent
Worth the read. You won’t be able to put it down.
Gray zone
Betrayed by colleagues and forced to take on a suicidal (for anyone but him) mission, the indestructible Court Gentry boy is now on the run from a Russian crime lord in South America. After escaping gun toting killers, crocs, and piranha in the Amazon, he seeks out the only man he (thinks he) can trust. In Mexico of all places. Where he’s been executed by a drug cartel. Our boy finds himself in a “war with no sides…only survivors.” I don’t think I’m giving away too much about the story line by saying if I ever found myself in a war of the sort described above, I would want the Gray Man on my side. Spoiler alert: He doesn’t even get the girl at the end. She becomes a nun instead, as you would.
Breakneck pace, action aplenty, and progressively body count paper over the plot holes. Not the best in the series, neither is it the worst. They’re all just shades of gray after all. (Sorry)
