Publisher Description

Cal Rahm is a brilliant mining engineer destined for a glittering career. He drops out after a terrorist attack destroys his research station. His fiancée was killed in the attack, and he loses the will to go on. After a string of manual jobs, including a spell as a mercenary, fighting off hostile tribes and bandits, he signs up for a contract on Mars. The discovery of a miracle mineral on the planet has opened up opportunities for people like him. It offers the chance to earn a big pay packet. And to escape the ghosts of the past that haunt his nightmares.

There are threats Rahm has to resolve on Mars, threats beyond anything he could have anticipated. Taurons, the vicious aliens from outside the Solar System who intend to extract the precious trevanium for their sole use. Corporate greed that threatens to shatter the entire project with weak and ineffectual management. A killer inside Mars Base who threatens them all. And Gabi Aaronsen, a girl he has to protect from all of them.

Battleground Mars is a Science Fiction thriller crammed with breakneck action, brutal battle scenes, and intriguing science that hints at a future that is more than credible. A must read for fans of the Sci-Fi genre.

Mr Dazz ,

Battleground Mars

This book reads like a first draft. There are so many typos and even a repeated paragraph! The central idea is solid and is what attracted me in the first place. A star fairing race from Alpha Centauri lands not on Earth, but Mars, where they fight the non star fairing humans for mining rights. Unfortunately Schneider has let us down with poor writing. The aliens are cliché and remind me too much of L. Ron Hubbard's monsters in Battlefield Earth (and why does that title sound familiar?) To call the characters one dimensional would be too generous. They obviously resented their cardboard status and refused to cooperate with the author in bringing out any realistic dialog. The action scenes don't ring true either and much of what happens is told in bland statements rather than revealing the story through description and detail. I got the sense that this book wanted to be hard sci-fi but never quite got there because it's lack of big ideas. (and the aliens are just silly really.) The only people who would get anything at all from this book would be Mars heads like me. Some advise for Mr. Schneider; Get your self a good editor and listen to what they say. Then write ANOTHER draft.
