Detective Inspector Daniel Clement is back in Broome, the tropical town where he grew up, licking his wounds from a busted marriage and struggling to be impressed by his new team of small-town, inexperienced cops. But stagnation and lethargy soon give way to a case with urgent purpose. On the edge of the desert, a man is found dead in a crocodile-infested watering hole. And he is only the first. The connection between the victims is elusive, but Clement must pursue it as a decades-old mystery begins to unravel and a monster cyclone brews on the horizon.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Unfolding against the desolate landscapes of Western Australia, Before It Breaks is a moody crime thriller. Divorced and professionally stagnant, Detective Inspector Daniel Clement is a man adrift. So is Dieter Schaffer: a German immigrant and ex-cop who's executed near a croc-infested creek. We were hooked by this suspenseful and gritty tale by Dave Warner, a celebrated local musician whose storytelling gifts were a cornerstone of his pub band’s success.
A great crime read.
A very good a Australian crime story set in Broome and the Kimberly. Wonderful characters and a good flow of processing crime scenes and following train of thought. Will keep you involved till the end and wanting more of Detective Dan Clement.
