Publisher Description
Isabella Marie Boyd, better known as “Belle Boyd,” was a notorious Confederate spy during the American Civil War. She operated her father’s hotel in Front Royal, Virginia, and used her position to spy on Union officers who occupied the hotel. She passed intelligence to Confederate general Stonewall Jackson and was awarded the Southern Cross of Honor for her contributions. Later in the war, she was arrested by the United States government and held in the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC. Following the war, Boyd traded on her fame by writing this memoir and giving lectures on her wartime experiences.
