Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Reconciling different intellectual traditions
Publisher Description
This is a collection of academic essays written by Adam Mitchell in 2022. They were completed in his first year of a Master of History degree at the Australian National University. Prior to this, he had completed a Bachelor of Arts (History) with distinction at the University of Newcastle, graduating in 2021. This book contains 5 chapters, each a seperate essay, on various topics and disciplines, including historiography, colonialism, literary criticism, the history of race and postcolonial theory. The essays, as a whole, act as an attempt to reconcile different and often competing intellectual traditions that have developed in modern academia, such as postcolonialism, settler-colonial theory, Marxism and feminism, while maintaining the academic ‘rigour’ that academic disciplines such as History require.
