Black and White Squared

Eighty black and white square photographs of ordinary things.



The book came about as the result of an experiment in composition and framing.



I took around eighty of my better photographs that were in a rectangular format with the intention of making good square versions.



I expected to have to reject the vast majority of the images as being unworkable and that the remaining ones would all be markedly inferior to the rectangular versions.



In the end only two did not make the cut. In just about every other case the square version was every bit as good if not better than its original counterpart.
