FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE DR RUTH GALLOWAY MYSTERIES

A propulsive new thriller set in London featuring Detective Harbinder Kaur. A murderer hides in plain sight - in the police.

DS Cassie Fitzherbert has a secret - but it's one she's deleted from her memory. In the 1990s when she was at school, she and her friends killed a fellow pupil. Thirty years later, Cassie is happily married and loves her job as a police officer.

One day her husband persuades her to go to a school reunion and another ex-pupil, Garfield Rice, is found dead, supposedly from a drug overdose. As Garfield was an eminent MP and the investigation is high profile, it's headed by Cassie's new boss, DI Harbinder Kaur. The trouble is, Cassie can't shake the feeling that one of her old friends has killed again.

Is Cassie right, or was Garfield murdered by one of his political cronies? It's in Cassie's interest to skew the investigation so that it looks like the latter and she seems to be succeeding.

Until someone else is killed...

Solid police procedural

British author best known for her series about forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway. This is the third in a series centred on a late thirties, gay female Sikh police detective from West Sussex.
Our gal moves to London because West Sussex doesn’t have a reality show. No. Strike that. She moves because she’s been promoted to Detective Inspector in the Met. Hurrah! She lives in a small block of flats with two other women, one of whom becomes a love interest by the end. Her first big case in the big smoke involves the murder of a prominent politician at a school reunion. Not a private school, but an upmarket public one with a number of illustrious alumni (actor, musician, politicians, the current school headmistress etc) including a female detective sergeant, who now works for our gal despite being several years older than her. All is not what it seems, of course, The death 20 years earlier, apparently by misadventure, of a school mate of the aforementioned alumni soon intrudes on the investigation. Yada, yada. The end.
Police procedural with some diversity to modernise it, and echoes of “Big Little Lies” in the set up. Writing crisp and clear. Pace good. Can be read as a standalone. (I did).
