Susannah Cahalan is a reporter on the New York Post, and the recipient of the 2010 Silurian Award of Excellence in Journalism for Feature Writing. In 2009, Cahalan was in a serious relationship and her career as a reporter at the New York Post was taking off. But suddenly, as she tells it in this engaging memoir, she began suffering from a bizarre amalgam of debilitating symptoms including memory loss, paranoia, and severe psychosis that left her in a catatonic state that moved her close to death. Physicians remained baffled until one extraordinary doctor determined that Cahalan was "in the grip of some kind of autoimmune disease." Released from the hospital after 28 days, she had no memory of her stay there. DVDs recorded in the hospital were the only link she had to her startling condition. Utterly Fantastic!
Ten months ago I suffered a number of seizures one evening and was diagnosed with a large meningioma in my frontal lobe. This book has helped to benchmark my own progress, as I move toward returning to work. This is a fantastic read and allows the reader to have a glimpse into the life of this remarkable woman.
Book of all Books
I’m not a person to actually read books, and finish them. However, after watching the movie that had been issued this year, this story captured my attention.
I bought this book, thinking I may not enjoy it, or it’ll take me a month or so to read. This was not the case.
I was able to read it in 3 days, and every time I wanted to go on my phone, I wanted to read this book, to know the ending (even though I already did).
Susannah is an inspiration to many people, and a life that many people are thankful for, all because of the courage you had to come out with your story for the world to read.
