Oliver Optic is the pseudonym of the American teacher, noted academic and author of juvenile literature William Taylor Adams. 

Published in 1894, "Brother Against Brother" tells a story of two Northern families' heads. The first one, a man of stern integrity, is earnestly loyal to the Union and the government. The other becomes a Secessionist, fully as earnest as, and far more demonstrative than, his brother on the other side. Will there be an end for the conflict for supremacy between them? Will the sons follow the pattern of their fathers?
