Publisher Description

Do you have to sit through presentations by others that frequently include poorly designed, text heavy slides that the presenter uses as a script rather than engaging with their audience?

Presenters frequently rely on text heavy slides, littered with bullet points, that are stared at by audiences with glazed expressions and heavy eyelids. Can the presenter not see or feel the lack of energy in the room? The disinterest from the audience seems obvious yet 'Death By PowerPoint' lives on in business communications.

This book outlines the common reasons why we use slides poorly and the impact this has on your audience. It explores the ‘dos and don’ts’ when using slides because, if you need to use them, you should make sure that you are doing so correctly. Finally, it introduces you to other options for presenting.

The concepts in this book ring true regardless of whether you are giving a presentation to thousands of people from a stage, to a few people in a meeting room or a virtual presentation. No matter the size of your audience, you need to communicate your messages in the most effective way.

Together we can eliminate death by bullet point one presentation at a time.

Easy to read and practical

In this fun and easy to read book Gabrielle Dolan reminds us how many ways there are to present in a creative and enagaging manner, and avoid death by PowerPoint. An excellent resource for anyone delivering presentations. The addition of the tips around how to also present virtually is an absolute bonus during this time of more remote working.

No more boring presentations!

I first heard Gabrielle Dolan speak of her disdain for boring presentations (and especially those overly reliant on PowerPoint) at a conference about five years ago. Not only do I love the simple tips shared in this book, I had a good laugh at the chapter headings described by 80s song titles and lyrics. She offers many tips and pitfalls to avoid to improve and liven up your presentation, whether it's in-person or online. If you are keen to improve your presentation style, and rely less on the deadly bullet point, this book is for you.

Engaging, funny and practical

Bullet Points Kill is a valuable book for anyone that wants to present in a more engaging way. The addition of how to present virtually is both timely and practical. I love the music references and the humour makes this very practical read a delight. I highly recommend it.
