Publisher Description

Travis Barker’s soul-baring memoir chronicles the highlights and lowlights of the renowned drummer’s art and his life, including the harrowing plane crash that nearly killed him and his traumatic road to recovery—a fascinating never-before-told-in-full story of personal reinvention grounded in musical salvation and fatherhood.

After breaking out as the acclaimed drummer of the multiplatinum punk band Blink-182, everything changed for Travis Barker. But the dark side of rock stardom took its toll: his marriage, chronicled for an MTV reality show, fell apart. Constant touring concealed a serious drug addiction. A reckoning did not truly come until he was forced to face mortality: His life nearly ended in a horrifying plane crash, and then his close friend, collaborator, and fellow crash survivor DJ AM died of an overdose.

In this blunt, driving memoir, Barker ruminates on rock stardom, fatherhood, death, loss, and redemption, sharing stories shaped by decades’ worth of hard-earned insights. His pulsating memoir is as energetic as his acclaimed beats. It brings to a close the first chapters of a well-lived life, inspiring readers to follow the rhythms of their own hearts and find meaning in their lives.

Couldn't put it down

Was never really a fan of Blink back in the day, but became a fan of TB after listening to Travis's collabs with Yelawolf, Busta etc. This book is fascinating. Travis is one of the most genuine guys. I respect him for the love he has for what he does, and the fact that he is so giving of his time to other artists. His treatment of women leaves a bit to be desired and he admits that "dumpster d##k" is one of his nicknames, but you get the feeling that he would be the most loyal friend you could have. His childhood, survival of his plane crash and frank admissions of the less admirable character traits he has make you admire him more.

I recommend listening to the songs and bands he mentions on iTunes as you're reading the book to get a cool aural experience.

I read a lot of biogs, and usually end up not liking the subject that much by the end. Not so with this. I felt like I got a sense of a man who loves his family, friends and fans, and someone who has changed the way I listen to hip hop/rap edm etc. I share a love of punk also.

Travis seems virtually ego-free, and I really recommend this book. Fan for life now.

One of my favourites

Such an uplifting and positive read. It's great hearing his side of the story and to learn about more than meets the eye. It's one of those books you can't put down until you finish it all.
