Publisher Description
This is an intriguing look into the mind’s eye of the printmaker Eric Gaskell as he searches for just the right image to translate into print. The well-known British canal artist Gaskell combines over 200 of his drawings with his book “Canal Linocuts - Along the English and Welsh Canal System” into one iBook volume. With a specially written foreword by Tony Lewery (the respected artist and author of canal folk art and signwriting) this is a book that is sure to go down well with any canal enthusiast.
The book is a record of Gaskell’s journey along the canals, containing all 37 of the black & white linocut series (along with their historical and informative captions) and includes many of his colour canal linocuts and the drawings that helped to create them. The drawings, preliminary works for a series of linocuts, are made in a variety of styles and mediums; black and white, colour, pencil, conte, watercolour. Some of the drawings in this book made it to the linocut stage, many didn’t. If you like drawing or printmaking or canals (or all three) then there is something here for you.
