Well worth it, great narrator
Not much to fault here at all, a great blend of commando comics (but with a not too cliche muleskinner as narrator, no "Gott in Himmel! These englanders fight like madmen!!" cut-out writing), a touch of iain m banks quality inventiveness with regards to some of the creatures in the story, and a good dash of "I Claudius" style politicking going on. Slight lack of peripheral character development, but main ones are totally well fleshed out, especially by the end. All in a believable fantasy world where the author actually takes the different tack of not getting bogged down in histories and geographies and genealogies. Enjoyable episodic stuff, also kind of reminds me of great Fritz Leiber short sword and sorcery stories but all grown up.
