Class and Social Mobility

Is today's society truly a meritocracy, in which someone's economic and social background has no impact on what they can achieve? Many believe that it is, and yet recent research has suggested that social mobility is slower in the UK today than it was in medieval England. This book looks at the thorny issue of class and whether it is an impediment to social mobility, covering issues such as the debate surrounding unpaid internships, public school dominance of top jobs and whether terms such as 'chav' and 'underclass' are responsible for demonising the working classes as some claim.
