Publisher Description
Aleena Moore is haunted by Jared Holt. It's been six years since she's seen her brother's best friend, the self-destructive bad boy she secretly loved in high school. As the years pass, she knows it's time to move on. Time to decide between a practical nursing degree and her true dream as an artist. Time to get over Jared and give another guy a chance...
Just when she opens her heart to her friend, Gabe, Aly returns home to find Jared sleeping on her couch. The teenage boy she loved has grown into a man she can't resist. Covered in tattoos and lost in rage, he's begging to be saved from his demons - the memories of the day he destroyed his family. As the two reconnect, their passion is hot enough to torch Aly's judgment. But can she risk her future for a man who lives on the edge of destruction?

Jared Holt. One of the most tortured characters I've ever read. And rightly so - his story is devastatingly sad. The walls he's built from the tragedy of his life are so incredible heartbreaking. Gut wrenching. My heart bled for him from the very beginning, even when I had no idea what had happened. The writing is so gripping that you cannot help but feel. And feel is what I did throughout this whole tale.
Aly is a gorgeous character that is fighting her own demons, she's shattered. And when the beautiful boy she once adored returns a broken man it just crushes her all the more. I particularly loved the glimpses back to their childhood, the little peeks into what made her feel for him the way she did. I felt what it was like to be a young girl with a crush again!
I love A.L. Jackson's writing. I've been a big fan for a really long time. As always, this book was so very beautifully written that I got completely swept away in it. The flow of words, the emotions her writing elicits, the draw of her characters... so many 'feels' in this one. Grab your tissues and get swept away in this great and raw tale. Added to my favorites shelf. LOVED IT!
