Publisher Description

Prostate cancer (PCa) [4] is the most common malignancy among men in the US, with an estimated ~200 000 new cases and 30 200 deaths in 2002 (1). Approximately 30% of men who are treated for localized disease will have recurrences, and a subset of these men will develop progressive disease (2-5). The clinical staging of PCa continues to utilize serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and the digital rectal examination. Most patients diagnosed early with organ-confined (OC) tumors are curable ~90-95% of the time with radical prostatectomy (3,5) and -80-95% with radiation therapy (6).
