A Curious Intimacy
A female botanist on a field trip in the Australian hinterland meets and falls in love with a lonely woman living on a property in a morally secluded community. The bushland setting is described with unusually detailed observations that capture the place and its limitations both physical and emotional. The character of the grazier's wife is complex and drawn with depth and sensitivity. The young botanist narrates the story almost in awe of experiences that are new to her and she is unable to predict what will happen. What does happen is a surprise ending that is as fulfilling as it is unexpected.
This book is the debut novel of a writer who uses words deftly and precisely to share unique experiences. Female love is made understandable and attractive for both female and male readers, of all ages.
