Hunches, horse races, and heartbreak.
Ten years after Simone Payton broke his heart, all Roscoe Winston wants is a doughnut. He’d also like to forget her entirely, but that’s never going to happen. Roscoe Winston remembers everything—every look, every word, every single unrequited second—and the last thing he needs is another memory of Simone.
Unfortunately, after one chance encounter, Simone keeps popping up everywhere he happens to be . . .
Ten years after Roscoe Winston dropped out of her life, all Simone Payton wants is to exploit him. She’d also like some answers from her former best friend about why he ghosted her, but if she never gets those answers, that’s a-okay. Simone let go of the past a long time ago. Seriously, she has. She totally, totally has. She is definitely not still thinking about Roscoe. Nope. She’s more than happy to forget he exists.
But first, she needs just one teeny-tiny favor . . .
Dr. Strange Beard is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be read as a stand-alone, and is the sixth book in the USA TODAY bestselling Winston Brothers series.
Customer Reviews
Quite gripping
I wasn’t going to read this book for a few reasons. 1) I had been binge reading the series for a few weeks and kinda wanted a break. 2) I didn’t feel that invested in Roscoe and his story. 3) I read the sample on iBooks and did NOT love the undercover FBI element to it, it seemed a bit lame and cheesy. I then found myself once again perusing Pinterest boards of the Winston characters (side note, if you haven’t done this yet, do it!!) and one of the links took me to a review of this book that started out similar to the one I’m writing right now.. and that reviewer had followed through, finished it and was absolutely raving about it. Raving big time. So… how could I not? Well I’m happy to say that this was another great book by Penny Reid. It’s not my favourite in the serious - Cletus and Jenn still hold that title for me (I’ve read it twice which is a big deal for me) but Roscoe’s story still had me unable to put it down until I’d finished. There were gripping/shocking side plots throughout the book which had me feeling all the emotions. I cried big time at one point. These side plots did detract away from the love story a bit though and in my opinion, the book didn’t have the same build-up-til-your-heart-bursts type feel that some of the others have had. I did love that this story jumped ahead in time enough to see where all the other characters were at and mentioned quite a few gasp-worthy tidbits that you just know will be elaborated on in future books or ones I just haven’t read yet. So, I’m really glad I read this one and would highly recommend. Now onto Billy’s story and then maybe I’ll take my break. Ha.
Why are so many people giving this 1 star?
Finally a book that doesn’t use chocolate or mocha to describe an African American and she’s the heroine and real societal issues are discussed. This may not be Penny Reid’s best book but it no way deserves 1 star 👍👍👍👍
Mixup.
Still waiting for the right book to download or update. Although I loved the last story would really like to read the new one!
