Publisher Description
The interactive map at the state's official wine Web site, www.virginiawine.org, might make you think that the Virginia wine boom has bypassed South Hampton Roads and that our residents don't have much reason to celebrate Virginia Wine Month each October. Markers on the map point to the locations of the state's 135 wineries, and not one is in the very southeastern corner of the state. Almost all are found in a swath that runs from Roanoke, through Charlottesville, and to Leesburg in the far north. That territory, most of it hilly, is widely considered the best in the state for viticulture.
