'Inspiring yet practical' Robert Greene, author of The 48 Laws of Power

It's wrecked the careers of promising young geniuses. It's evaporated great fortunes and run companies into the ground. It's made adversity unbearable and turned struggle into shame. Every great philosopher has warned against it, in our most lasting stories and countless works of art, in all culture and all ages. Its name? Ego, and it is the enemy - of ambition, of success and of resilience.

In Ego is the Enemy, Ryan Holiday shows us how and why ego is such a powerful internal opponent to be guarded against at all stages of our careers and lives, and that we can only create our best work when we identify, acknowledge and disarm its dangers. Drawing on an array of inspiring characters and narratives from literature, philosophy and history, the book explores the nature and dangers of ego to illustrate how you can be humble in your aspirations, gracious in your success and resilient in your failures.

The result is an inspiring and timely reminder that humility and confidence are our greatest friends when confronting the challenges of a culture that tends to fan the flames of ego, a book full of themes and life lessons that will resonate, uplift and inspire.

ryanfernance ,

A great look at how we can be our own worst enemy.

Ryan has a way of making his stories come alive. Philosophy is inherently something that can come across as dry but the way Ryan crafts the stories of the past and relates them to the current day issues we can face is very engaging.

For anyone who is looking to quiet that part of themselves that they know can be heard all too often (ego), this book is a fantastic starting point.

Made me think….

I picked up this book specifically during a time of change in the workplace - and with the intent to understand whether the frustration I was feeling was related to my ego.

The book validated that some of the things I was experiencing was unfair - but how I was reacting to it could be improved by assessing whether it was my ego that was being impacted.

Being a naturally optimistic person, I applied the lessons from the last few chapters to what I was going through - and the immediate sense of relief was palpable.

Wow!

Loved every facet of this book and was just what I needed to read and acknowledge at this transition point in my life. If only I had found it six months ago!

On par with Simon Sinek's Start With Why and Cal Newport's So Good They Can't Ignore You.

Very transformative. Thank you Ryan! Off to look at your other books!
