The road trip from Chicago’s North Shore to California’s Pacific Coast is full of wide-open spaces, towering snow-capped mountains, dazzling rock formations, and crystal-clear lakes. It would have been a dream trip for Elissa Bennett Pope, a former Lake Forest debutante, residential property manager, real estate broker, summer stock theatrical performer, and one-time trophy wife.
