Life is never dull for Stephanie Plum, but now she's got an assassin and the FBI on her tail in Evanovich's less than stellar 18th entry in her main sequence featuring the New Jersey bounty hunter (after Smokin' Seventeen). Back in Trenton after a disastrous trip to Hawaii that involved both Ranger and Joe Morelli (don't ask, she won't talk), Stephanie tries to go about life in the bond business, accompanied as always by her sidekick, Lula. But Hawaii won't stay buried, especially when news that her seatmate turned up murdered and his killers are convinced that Stephanie now has a photograph he was carrying. With Stephanie's luck, the photograph did end up in her luggage, but she threw it away, thinking it was junk. But try telling that to the FBI and the shady men masquerading agents or the hit man who goes by Razzle Dazzle and wants to kill her and take the photograph, not necessarily in that order. There are still bond jumpers to catch like Buggy, who repeatedly steals Stephanie's car and the perpetual Morelli versus Ranger question to answer. In the end, there's little to distinguish this installment from its recent predecessors.

Thanks so much for another great read!! I've now completed every book of yours ( 1- 16 I've read twice) I can't wait to c what happens in the next novel.... I'm kind of hoping Stephanie and morrelli settle down and maybe have a baby or 2!! Would luv to also see lula meet her match! I feel like I've known these characters for ever. Oh and Ranger...... Hmmm well he seems like the perfect package!! Great job Janet Evanovich :)
Good but losing zing factor
After following Stephanie for more than a decade (where my life has seen me change jobs several times, move interstate, take a husband, bear three children and find a new career) it's becoming tedious that she's not moving along with me. Or at all. Miss Plum's life - utterly implausibly - hasn't moved on one iota. And while the japes and the weirdly compelling ménage a trois that occupy her life are by no means plausible either, the reader is only willing to suspend disbelief so far. Come on, Janet! Take a risk and move Steph' on!!
Unfortunately another filler book :/ (spoilers)
I love steph and the whole crew... But we have been in limbo for SO long now it's starting to really irritate. I have been putting off reading 18 for ages just incase it was another 'filler'. The filler books are still funny and the characters are great friends to visit, but there is a central story which has only really been progressed in a handful of the books.
In saying that, I only finally caved today and after reading the first few chapters, I was stoked that the Steph, Ranger, Morelli plot was finally getting some airtime. Couldn't put it down wanting to know what happens next, and now that I've finished it... I'm still waiting!
There are really no more than a couple of side swipes at the central plot, and now we wait for the next book... Again!
