Faru

Three months into Faru’s idyllic life inside Africa’s Ngorongoro Crater, the black rhinoceros calf is orphaned and, compelled to flee, embarks on an adventurous journey to find what remains of his family, along the way discovering the inter-connectedness of all living things.


The 67,000-word middle-grade novel emerged from the author’s twelve years of living in Tanzania, working with a rhino anti-poaching team’s educational project, as well as a heart-felt interest in wildlife conservation.


Many wondrous creatures are nearing extinction. Some have already disappeared, including the last northern white rhino population that figures into Faru’s story. The time is right for young and old to experience the tale of this endearing young rhino’s coming of age while struggling to survive.
