Whether one merely survives or thrives amidst these work demands is largely dependent upon personal values and self-efficacy, an acknowledging and compassionate workplace culture and the ability to monitor and care for oneself, physically and emotionally.

Looking through the experiences of ambulance personnel, this book provides frameworks for understanding oneself and the personal reactions to the common demands of ambulance life.
