APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
From the very first page of Fire with Fire, Australian crime novelist Candice Fox showcases her mastery of the genre, delivering a thrilling tale filled with unexpected twists, intense action and wry moments of policing. Detective Charlie Hoskins is just settling back into ordinary life after five dark years undercover in a biker gang when two desperate parents launch a hostile siege at a police forensic science lab in Los Angeles. Fox explores the complex and sometimes conflicting instincts required to be a good cop or a good parent, and with skilful plotting, expertly ratchets up the tension while the characters navigate LA’s sunbaked highways and beaches. This standalone novel will keep you engaged until the very end and have you wanting more.
Customer Reviews
What happened??
I read a few of this authors first novels and absolutely loved them.
The writing seemed so fresh and inspired and they were truly great, engaging reads.
The last book I bought from her was a collaboration with a very big international best seller, and I found it to be extremely boring, formulaic and cliched.
Remembering how much I enjoyed her first works I decided to give this one a go, but unfortunately it seems she’s picked up some of the traits of the last one I read, and is running hard with them.
I could only get about an eighth of the way into this story and I think I’m just about done. It seems really silly. The chief of police seems really silly. And it’s mostly just filler so far... lots of long descriptions of unimportant things or ideas and people’s inner thoughts.
Is there an avenue for refunds on here cos I’d just about ask for one on this book I think.
I’m sure she’s making plenty of money now, and that’s great, but I won’t be buying again, which is sad to me considering how much I loved her earlier stuff
Slow read
Bought this book after finding her new novel un put downable. This was exact opposite, slow plot, boring characters - I couldn’t finish it, so boring
