Despite feeling like a fairly competent woman, capable of managing complicated situations, Scott’s suicide completely flattened me and spun my life into something I did not recognize. The first year following his death can best be described as frantic. I was frantic to breathe, to make it through the next couple minutes, to maintain sanity, to keep up with the daily chores, to gain control, to make progress, to recognize myself, and ultimately to find peace and joy.

In Frantic Unleashed, Part I of the Frantic Series, survivor Missy Palrang describes her daily struggles following her husband’s death by suicide. Her journal is filled with raw emotion and insight. She describes her struggles with learning to live again and regain joy in this new and foreign world she’s been forced to enter. She shares poignant observations as well as lessons she learned along the way.

At the end of each chapter, Grief Therapist Jill McMahon offers her perspective. The words she shares are a compilation of that which she’s learned in her 15 years of work with survivors. She shares common reactions, feelings, and behaviors survivors encounter as they walk through the healing process.

This is Missy’s process, her path to healing. It’s not the same path other survivors will take. It’s her hope sharing her experience will ease the pain, promote the healing, and help other survivors eventually find their version of joy.
