Publisher Description
'Meet the new king of decluttering' - The Times
'Take your spring cleaning to the next level with Goodbye, Things by Fumio Sasaki' - Parade
'There's happiness in having less. If you are anything like how I used to be - miserable, constantly comparing yourself with others, or just believing your life sucks - I think you should try saying goodbye to some of your things'
Fumio Sasaki is a writer in his thirties who lives in a tiny studio in Tokyo with three shirts, four pairs of trousers, four pairs of socks and not much else. A few years ago, he realised that owning so much stuff was weighing him down - so he started to get rid of it.
In this hit Japanese bestseller, Sasaki explores the philosophy behind minimalism and offers a set of straightforward rules - discard it if you haven't used it in a year; be a borrower; find your uniform; keep photos of the things you love - that can help all of us lead simpler, happier, more fulfilled lives.

Freedom through minimalism
It’s so refreshing to read a frank yet heartfelt account of someone who has lived their minimalist journey and can now share it so honestly with others. Many great lessons here, and useful practical tips to help others who may wish to embark on their own journey. Some moments of real perspective, putting meaning and intention back into how we choose to live our lives. Having been on my own Minimalist journey for over 14 years now, I am still learning, and this book remains my go-to when I feel I’m going off track or need to refocus. It’s a liberating feeling letting go of the material things that really do weigh us down physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Highly recommended read!
Enlightening
Perhaps the best book written about the path to a minimalist life. I truly doubt there is even one person out there that wouldn’t benefit from at least some of the tips shared within.
Amazing wisdom within
This is one of the most personal and relatable books on Minimalist living you’ll ever read. It was so well written I felt like the author was right in the room with me having a warm and passionate conversation. Each section of the book flowed beautifully into the next, I couldn’t put it down and when I did, I was constantly thinking about what I had learnt. I was so inspired by every chapter and felt so motivated and challenged to live as the author was encouraging me to live. This will be a book I read through every year as it’s message is eternal. It’s a wonderful guide to a rich and happy life without the need for excess “things”. Well done and a thousand thanks!
