Grief Encounters

Grief Encounters is a fine art photography series by Mark Bartkiw .The dark worlds implied in Grief Encounters are pregnant with tension, unheard dialogues and missed intentions. We layer our own insecurities over the image to give ourselves the illusion of closure, a comforting explanation for the veiled conflict. These pictures are stills from a Noir Novella eluding our full comprehension.

The analogue macro-photographic approach is a crucial aspect of the construction of the images. The camera captures a real space, in real light, using physical optics demonstrating an on-going fascination with photography’s ability to fabricate a world without dependence on digital manipulation.
