Publisher Description
Peter Baines started his career as a police officer in the streets of Cabramatta in the early nineties. Becoming a specialist in forensic crime scene investigations he was called upon to bring his skills to the Bali bombings in 2002.
But it was the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami that forever changed the direction of his life. Helping the people of Thailand identify their dead, he met the countless children who had been left behind, orphaned, with nowhere to go. With a colleague he decided to do something, and set about creating the charity Hands Across the Water, building an orphanage and raising funds to support and educate the children.
This is Peter's story about how one knockabout Aussie bloke can change the lives of thousands by offering a hand.

Hands Across The Water
A great book of very personal stories, many of them so sad, but many of them so uplifting and wonderful. It really encourages you that if you want to do something, just go and do it, don't be held back by your own limitations. The book does help show that we haven't lost our humanity, there is lots of good in people. When I finished the book I could almost see the smiles on the children and people of Thailand. Read it!
Inspired to do more
This book is a gripping story that takes you into a lot of worlds you never want to be involved in. The real nitty gritty of forensic police work. Beautiful to see the change in the author's personality as he is goes from expressing his skills, doing his duty to being deeply touched in a soulful way. Surrounded by so much tragedy he becomes positively mutated from an average Joe to a person who must have thought "the buck stops with me & I have to commit to making a difference for these kids who lost their parents, security and joy"
This book has softened my heart & I am grateful there is an active charity like hands across the water, that puts 100% of money earned into the children's welfare.
You will elevate your spirit & make a difference to the world in a small but nice way just by reading this book.
Inspirational
I have just finished the best book I have read in a long time, I cried and laughed - most of all I thought how lucky i was. Through Peter's eyes we travel the journey at safe distance yet close enough to touch what is in side each and everyone of us.
As you take the journey you understand anything is possible you just need to want it enough.
