Publisher Description
Many of the most spectacular and interesting astronomical objects are found in the magnificent southern skies.
Professor E. J. Hartung first produced a comprehensive and highly respected guide for southern observers in 1968. The book was thoroughly revised, expanded in 1995, enhancing its essential character as an indispensable source of information for the active observer of the night sky.
Nearly 200 objects are illustrated in black and white and much new background material has been included about the constellations and celestial coordinate systems as well as a more modern description of the stars, nebulae and galaxies. New tables include a ‘southern Messier’ list of objects.
The authors' passion for their subject makes this a unique and inspirational book.

Hartungs Astronomical Objects for Southern Telescopes
This is an excellent buy, I bought the original hard copy back in 2005 for $85.00. I have bought many books on Astronomy over the years but this is my favorite. It really has a wealth of information for beginner and amateur. It is the one book I will not part with. I was that impressed finding this copy in iBooks so I bought it for the convenience of having it on my iPad for when I am observing. It is a great addition to my Luminos sky App. I highly recommend it.
