Had potential, but…
Well that was a hot mess.
There was a decent story line in there but it was lost in all the jumping around, not to mention the massive discrepancies in how much time was passing. In fact there was a conversation where the time jumped from 2 days lost to 2 weeks and then back again.
It was confusing to the point I wasn’t sure what was going on or what was SUPPOSED to be going on and the blurb never mentioned most of what, in hindsight, was supposed to be relevant plot details. Which made the end seem unearned and disconnected from the first part of the story. It’s almost like the writer was writing one story and then decided the shoehorn in another when the first one turned out to be boring.
And don’t even get me started on the character development. Abigail started full on hallucinating at one point and I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Was it some kind of PTSD? Or was there something magical going on? I DON’T KNOW, and clearly neither did the story because it was never mentioned again or discussed.
And there were other things that were poorly explained, like the Kine. I mean I think they were explained but it was done in a forgettable way, because I can’t remember sh*t about it and apparently it was important to the plot, or at least that was how the ending made it seem to me.
And also what was the importance of the orphan/abandoned girls? Because you could have completely erased them from the story with little problem only a few adjustments would have been needed. In fact you could have replaced them with a horse or a dog and the effect would have been the same. And then there was the Neven kid, he was just point blank useless. No plot relevance, no character development, nothing. Completely wasted space.
Oh and lastly there was the name problem. Too many similar sounding names. I kept getting confused between Magnus and Marcus. And Abigail and Alice.

That was terrible! Badly written, stupid story line with many holes and bits that didn't make sense, horrible characterisation not helped by poorly scripted speaking parts. Could have been so much more!!
