The impact of hyperglycemia as a comorbidity in delayed wound healing is well documented. The purpose of this course is to provide nurses with a working knowledge of preventative strategies of skin breakdown, identification of types of skin breakdown, and steps for appropriate care of wounds in patients with diabetes. 2. Describe acute and chronic wounds, and discuss the impact of hyperglycemia on both wound types.

3. Evaluate the pathologic effects of diabetes as it relates to wound development and healing.

4. Differentiate between arterial and venous ulcers.

5. Analyze characteristics of sensory-neuropathic ulcers.

6. Illustrate differences between pressure injuries of various stages.

7. Recognize hyperglycemia's role in delaying surgical wound healing.

8. Review significant aspects of wound documentation.
