Publisher Description
CAN THEY SAVE THEIR MARRIAGE?
Fourteen years, two kids, a big mortgage, and a million moments glue together the marriage of Lou and Josh. But after a particularly fraught family Christmas, Lou starts to wonder if it's worth the effort.
Ever the doer, she sets a series of monthly tests, from daily sex to brutal honesty, to help her decide if she should stay or leave. The results are surprising, funny and tender.
A propulsive, sometimes uncomfortable, and always insightful story of the highs, lows and absurdities of modern marriage, I Give My Marriage a Year is the novel you'll want to talk about at length.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With her third novel, Holly Wainwright—who’s also the content lead for Australian women’s media website Mamamia—hones her ability to create relatable, contemporary women’s fiction. The novel opens with protagonist Lou deciding to end her marriage to long-term partner Josh in one year, unless things improve. Each month she tries something new (daily sex, counselling, etc.), but we’re quick to learn—via Wainwright’s clever choice to alternate perspective between Lou and Josh—that her relationship woes are far from one-sided. Wainwright excels at making us constantly second guess each character’s trustworthiness; the more we get to know them, the more flawed, complex and human they become. Fans of Liane Moriarty and Zoë Foster Blake best brew some coffee now—this novel is designed to be devoured fast.
