This is not your typical pirate tale. There is treasure, yes; and an island. There are sword fights and adventure. There is swearing, and drinking, and the odd damsel for good measure. But that's not really what the old man has set out to tell you. (Truth be told, he's not sure what he's set out to tell you...and if he manages to do it even a little, he himself will be surprised.)



For this is a story of coming of age, told by the aged...and cantankerous...and rude. And begrudgingly sober. And, well, quite possibly mad.



The old man claims to be the greatest pirate that ever lived; but before that, he will have you know, he was a simple youth with a stunning nose and impassively bad luck.



Thus he sets out, with a Dictaphone and a grudge, on his final adventure: imparting the tale of his humble, bumbling beginnings to you, dear reader (who he will - be forewarned - much abuse).



Set in an ambiguously modern time (don't do the math; it doesn't add up), with a cast of characters wholly (and unholy) unseen before, this implausible tale of an unlikely boy told by a preposterous man will try your patience and your sense of propriety quite admirably - if only you allow it.



Drafted on long walks through the Japanese countryside, I, Pirate was inspired by the likes of Don Quixote, the collected works of Terry Pratchett, and a host of random but captivating foreign films and anime found loitering on Netflix.
