There is an intimate chemistry between the mind and its surroundings. Sometimes it’s nothing but an admixture; sometimes there’s a reaction. This is a story about combustion.


An Armenian couple encounters a charming child in an Istanbul orphanage. They take her home to Slough City, California. On a farm just east of that town, another couple takes in two hungry runaways. Neither couple has any idea what forces they’ve welcomed into their lives.
