One morning ten years ago, the town of Twin Rivers changed forever when the body of Tyler Washington was found in the woods. Son of the mayor, star of the high school basketball team – his death struck right at the heart of this tight-knit community.

For Olivia Hall, Tyler’s death heralded the start of her own personal nightmare – her twin brother, Ethan, was arrested for Tyler’s murder. Ten years later, Ethan is still in jail. Olivia is convinced he is innocent, and now, a true crime podcast has taken up his case.

As the podcast digs deeper, secrets, lies and shocking revelations are all uncovered. For the first time, Olivia dares to hope that Ethan may be set free. But if he didn’t kill Tyler, who did? And how far will they go to keep their secrets safe?

About the author

A. M. Taylor lives and writes in London. When not making up stories, she writes copy for a living and can most often be found drinking coffee, watching Netflix, and trying to keep up with a never ending TBR pile. She’s been obsessed with mysteries ever since Nancy Drew first walked into her life and would probably have attempted to become a private detective at some point, if only it didn’t involve actually having to talk to people. She has a cat called Domino, ambitions of owning a dog one day, and is as obsessed with My Favorite Murder as you probably are.

A brilliant read with a jaw dropping twist!

After reading the blurb for this book I was instantly captivated and I had to read this right away. Luckily I didn’t have to wait long and when I was approved to read an advanced copy, I dove straight in and devoured it in one sitting! Being a psychological thriller was a bonus as this is my favourite genre, but what drew me in more than anything was it’s use of incorporating the story as a podcast, which really fits perfectly with the public’s current appetite and fascination for these.

A.M. Taylor has woven a thrilling tale, that is fundamentally about loyalty and how far one goes in proving the innocence of a family member convicted of murder. Told through alternating chapters via the “then and now” format, the reader is given a great insight into the past and the events that shape the present. As the podcast delves deeper into the mystery, shocking revelations are exposed which results in an explosive jaw dropping conclusion. The blurb gives just the right amount of a tease for me not to go any further in telling what the story is about.

All of the characters for me were real and very believable, all have been written extremely well. The standout for me though, was definitely Olivia. Although not particularly close to her brother as teenagers as most twins are, there is still that unbreakable bond between them and her loyalty to him knows no bounds, proving his innocence becomes her obsession. I loved her determination in seeking out the truth no matter the cost.

I really enjoyed A.M. Taylor’s writing style. When I read a book from an author that is new to me, sometimes it can take me a few chapters to connect with their style, but it was instantanious in this case. I also try and be one step ahead, but for this story I just let myself relax and I was completely immersed in it. Although I have read for some that the outcome was predictable, for me just trusting in A.M. and letting her take charge without me thinking about it, made the finale all the more thrilling.

Innocent or Guilty is a chilling story that will have you gripped right from the get go and one where you will be taken on a wild ride full of twists and turns. It moves at the right pace where it builds suspense and tension along the way, before an explosive finale that will stay with you. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to more from A.M. Taylor.

Thank-you to NetGalley, One More Chapter and A.M. Taylor for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Innocent or Guilty which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
