Adolf Bernhard Marx is one of Beethoven's most famous biographers, mostly known for his critical biography Beethoven, Life and Work. This volume, Introduction to the Interpretation of the Beethoven Piano Works, originally appeared as an appendix until Marx later published it as an individual work, as it is presented here. Marx created a wider appreciation for Beethoven's works through his writings and he was also close to composer Felix Mendelssohn. In this work, Marx discusses performance techniques and musical elements, and provides a guide to each of Beethoven's piano sonatas.
