Inventing Jesus

The overwhelming majority of Christians know next to nothing about how their faith began. And, most importantly, they do not realize that the Jesus they worship is a fictional character created by the unknown author of Mark, the most influential novelist the world has ever known. Peter and Paul also never lived: Peter was created as a literary foil for the character of Jesus, and Paul’s epistles were likely forged in the second century. This book will convince you that there is no evidence for Jesus, Peter, and Paul outside of the fictional New Testament, and that the wild diversity and confusion of the first five centuries of Christianity was possible only because there was no historical Jesus to serve as an anchor for the faith.
