Great advice, and a very easy read.

This is an excellent guide to using an iPad for travelling. It describes the multi-faceted capabilities of the iPad that are relevant to international travel, and does this in a way that exploits the full potential of iBook format. I found it a joy to read, with each topic explained in a clear and concise way. The author has 'road tested' every aspect of the topics discussed so a reader can assured that what is described actually works. And I found it so.

Much of what is described is transferable to using an iPhone for travel purposes. Indeed, I prefer to use an iPhone when travelling because it is less cumbersome than an iPad and therefore more convenient to pack and carry. This book is thus an excellent primer for using both iPad and iPhone for holidays and travel.

Great Tips for International Travellers Using Maps

Kevin Long has done a great job of simplifying the somewhat complicated tasks associated with travelling away from your home country with an iPad and using it for finding your way around with the appropriate maps.

The book does not assume too much knowledge and addresses some fundamentals like buying new sim cards in visited countries to save on 'roaming' charges back home, and how to connect to the internet, wifi, 3G, depending on what your device supports.

The book explains how to pre-download maps of a particular region you are visiting so that you can use the iPad (or iPhone for that matter) when you don't have an internet connection. This is a crucial piece of useful information for dedicated map travellers.

Other useful apps like GoodReader that can be used to streamline your iPad travel requirements are also discussed, with examples.

In all, a great book to help get you around when travelling, especially by car.
