Druze chief charts independent course Lebanon was busy this week dealing with a political storm on a massive scale triggered by Druze leader and MP Walid Jumblat who in a surprise move dissented from the ruling coalition known as March 14. The anti-Syrian coalition, led by Premier-designate Saad al-Hariri and backed by the United States and Saudi Arabia, forms the majority in parliament. It is opposed by a Shiite-led minority backed by Syria and Iran.
