Keynes said of Malthus: Surely no higher tribute has ever been paid, or could ever be paid, by one economist to another. Of how many economists of the past can it be truly said that, if they had been listened to, they would have made the world 'a much wiser and richer place'? And of how many economists of the present will it be true that they also have made the world 'a much wiser and richer place'?
