Publisher Description
I knew without doubt that if any more of the vampires tried to attack us I'd kill them, too, regardless of apparent age, race, sex, or religious affiliations. I was an equal-opportunity executioner; I killed everybody.
My name is Anita Blake and I am a vampire hunter and necromancer, as well as a US Marshal. So when a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it's up to me to find her.
And when I do, I'm faced with something I've never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people - kids, grandparents, soccer moms - all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving their vampire master. And where there's one martyr, I know there will be more...
But even vampires have monsters that they're afraid of. And I'm one of them...
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
It's a few more typical days in the life of Anita Blake, U.S. marshal and vampire hunter, and in her fast-paced if formulaic 21st adventure, that means an even balance of bloody police work and athletic preternatural sex. When Anita and her fellow marshals respond to the kidnapping of an underage girl seeking vampirization in their alternate St. Louis, they uncover a coven of rogue vampires whose terrorist fringe will put readers in mind of certain displaced contemporary cultures. The premise extends the series' depiction of vampires as second-class citizens seeking equality in their human-dominated world, and illuminates the difficulties of Anita's life as a mortal who takes preternaturals as her lovers. Anita's interactions with those lovers are fraught with just as much tension as the violent S.W.A.T. assaults. There's nothing here that Hamilton (Hit List) hasn't done already, but there's enough to sustain readers until Anita's next escapade.
Customer Reviews
Book = excellent; download = not
Book is excellent but the download wouldn't work properly - everytime I opened it and then closed it (to recharge battery or just close it), it wouldn't reopen, and would end up as "paused". I had to remove and re-download via iTunes over and over again. I received excellent assistance from the Apple help section but it still wouldn't work. I suspect it may have been a glitch with the ebook itself. I was able to buy it in paperback and obtain a refund from Apple so I am very pleased with that but very disappointed that the ebook didn't work.
Repetitive, short, pricey.
I love your books but after paying the same price for so many it's disappointing to have some of them be tiny books and snippets. Also, you repeat so many things about the characters in each book that just isn't necessary, like their backgrounds, eye colours, who's a detective. Who's who is ok for new characters but anyone this far in shouldn't need beginner details... I end up skimming over almost half a book, which could have been filled with more juicy story details.
Love these but disappointed
I love these characters and stories. I can't imagine how hard it is to write and have people comment who have no real understanding. I get disappointed in the amount of text that is repeated in each book. I love the excitement and sitting in the edge of my seat but then feel robbed and deflated when it gets interrupted with page after page of text that could just be deleted. Sadly I read half this book and skipped page after page the other half. But I will keep reading the series in vain hope.
