Four years ago, firefighter Caleb Romero saved a child and met the woman of his dreams. But trauma killed the timing, so he’s contented himself with being the friend she needed as she navigated sudden parenthood.
Four years ago, Emerson Aldridge became a mom in the worst possible way. Without qualm, she abandoned her own dreams to shepherd her teenage daughter through their shared grief. Her number one priority has been to raise Fiona the way her best friend would have wanted.
Now Fi’s headed off to college and Emerson has no idea how to feel about her suddenly empty nest. She barely even remembers life before motherhood, but Caleb’s right next door to give her a reminder—along with a toe-curling kiss that catapults them past friends and into something more. The life she wanted before the accident is still within reach. He just has to convince her that their age difference means nothing.
Piece of cake. Right?

Caleb and Emerson
A friends to lovers, reverse age gap romance. This story is heartbreaking and sweet and steamy. There is tragedy and love, a child and a dog, lots of family and too many accidents. Caleb and Emerson have been friends for four years and when they finally become more, life throws a curveball at them. There is lots to love in this story and I look forward to reading more of this series.
Caleb’s and Emerson’s story starts with tragedy but ends with joy!
I loved this book. I warmed to Emerson, Fiona and Caleb from the start. The circumstances of an accident make them meet. Caleb is the firefighter that calls Emerson that there is an accident involving her best friend, Micah and her daughter, Fiona. Fiona survives the accident. Caleb lost his parents in a car accident exactly like Fiona. Caleb provides emotional support to Fiona and Emerson. The night of the tragic car accident Emerson becomes the guardian for fourteen year old Fiona. Caleb buys the house next door and supports them emotionally.
Four years later after Fiona goes to University, Caleb confesses to Emerson that he has feelings beyond friendship for her and that he wants a future with her.
Emerson and Caleb go through many trials and tribulations but they find their way back to each other. I loved the moment that they both realise they love each and want a life together.
A special mention must go to Mooch the dog for his comic timing and antics and for Paisley, Emerson’s other best friend who tells Emerson to wake up and run to Caleb as he truly loves and adores her.
I recommend this book to other readers! This book was a joy to read.
So good!
Caleb is too good to be true - a unicorn indeed.
Note : some women out there know that they really do exist!
Em is the embodiment of all women who compartmentalise roles; career, mother, lover… fully believing that something would have to give, that she couldn’t have it all.
Such a great message to women (& the men who love them) that she can be everything/anything she wants to be - if she’s riding a unicorn that is 🦄
