Love and Math

A New York Times bestseller

A stunning, globe-spanning journey through the beauty and power of mathematics.

“Powerful, passionate, and inspiring.” —New York Times

In Love and Math, renowned mathematician Edward Frenkel reveals a side of mathematics rarely seen outside the field, one suffused with all the beauty and elegance of art.

In gorgeous prose, Frenkel tells two intertwined stories: about the wonders of mathematics and about his own journey to become one of the world’s leading mathematicians. Frenkel describes his work on the Langlands Program, a mathematical Grand Unified Theory that enables researchers to translate findings from one field to another—and thereby solve previously intractable problems. Frenkel shows that mathematics, far from occupying a specialist niche, goes to the heart of reality, uniting us across cultures, time, and space.

Now with a new afterword exploring spectacular recent developments in the Langlands Program and Frenkel’s new ideas about the nature of reality, Love and Math is an invitation to discover the magic hidden universe of mathematics and the insights it can provide into the mysteries of life.
