Thomas Hardy (1840 – 1928) was an English novelist and poet. A Victorian realist in the tradition of George Eliot, he was influenced both in his novels and in his poetry by Romanticism, especially William Wordsworth.

“Master John Horseleigh, Knight” is a story by British author of 19-th century Thomas Hardy as usual happens in the fictional County in Wessex. The story takes place approximately in 1540 – 1541 and focuses on the main character who is the young sailor that returned home and goes straightly to the house of her sister and brother which had been married before his departing. Reached the place of his relatives he found out that his brother had already died and as for his sister. She married an old man who turned out to be more than suspicious regardless of the fact that sister was always a picky person.
