A bit over the top on the personal drama and not much on the police procedural story
TBH I’ve come into this series late, the 21st book is out. Whilst I’ve enjoyed some of the writing I have to question why the need for such HUGE drama in the main characters personal life and why what actually happened seems to change? 4 books in and Loren has almost had an affair, dumped her husband for the love of her life who was killed (and now is referred to as nothing more tha a fling!) her partner was killed, her daughter multiply raped injected numerous times with heroin and almost blown up (yet seem quite fine now, no lasting effects really! Loren’s boss/mentor left amid a health scare and was replaced be her ex lover that she dumped to marry her ex husband, her father was kidnaped and her sisters baby came a month early due to stress (complete with a heart problem) Lorne’s new husband to be has been kidnaped by the taliban and had his leg cut off, her new partners boyfriend is abusive and has wrecked the house and her stuff. Also Loren slept with one of the French police who turned out to be bad...oops! And when given the easy chance to bash the head in of the criminal who did all this, (she did hit him and he was unconscious so she could off whacked him again or tied him up, she is after all supposedly a cop!) BUT she ran!! I’m honestly at a loss on that! I feel like it’s a bit much for me and this will be my last book, the continuity stinks and the actual crimes are solved off hand. You don’t really develop a bond with the main character as she’s just a bit flighty....but it obviously works for others because the author has sold a lot of books and keeps writing the books. But I’d think twice about any commitments to this series , I personally am done. There are better written books and more stable characters for me.
This is my personal review and others will probably feel differently
