MERCY THOMPSON: MECHANIC, SHAPESHIFTER, FIGHTER
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam's ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam won't turn away a person in need, but with Christy holed up in Adam's house, Mercy can't shake the feeling that something isn't right.
Soon, Mercy learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and will anything to get him, including turning Adam's pack against Mercy.
On top of this, there's an even more dangerous threat circling. Christy's ex is more than a bad man - in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies pile up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her world apart.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the winning eighth urban fantasy (after Frost Burned) featuring coyote shapeshifter and car mechanic Mercy Thompson, Briggs adds Canary Islands mythology and garden-variety jealousy. Mercy is mated to Adam, the Alpha of the Tri-Cities werewolves. Adam's human ex-wife, Christy, seeks refuge with the pack to evade a dangerous stalker: volcano god Guayota. She soon begins playing on the sympathy of others to undermine Mercy's place in the pack. At the same time, a dangerous Gray Lord of the Fae sets a deadline for Mercy to return the walking stick she previously borrowed from the Fae and entrusted into the elusive Coyote's care. Between visits to imprisoned prophet Gary Laughingdog, whose importance grows along with the story, Mercy must fend off Guayota, who has pyrotechnic abilities and frightening red-eyed attack dogs. Briggs continues to surprise and intrigue readers with Mercy's inventiveness and intuition under duress.

Excellence!!!
I love the Mercy Thompson series and this story is a prime example of why I do. Humour, tragedy, magic and mayhem as well as hunky men and strong female characters. Werewolves, shifters and fey as well as humans encounter a Volcano god from the Canary Islands and disasters such as physical abuse, arson, murders and mutilation follow in due course.
I can’t get enough of these books, this though has been my favourite.
I got so angry and jealous and sad and worried and I laughed and boy did I cry. I can’t remember the last time a story, a book, characters moved me me like this. Thank you. I am so grateful there are more.
Wicked Wovles
Mercy and that damn walking stick. What a wild ride with our crazy girl Mercy. She keeps everyone on their toes and teaches us that size does not matter. Thankyou Patty for another fantastic read with all our favourite characters. You manage to touch base with everyone without making it messy. We get the feeling of true family bonds and what pack really means.
