IMPROVISE.
ADAPT.
OVERCOME.
These three words – the mantra of the Australian Army – resonated with Paul de Gelder the first time he heard them. Paul chased adventure wherever he could find it, from his wild ride as a hoodlum teen and his drug-and-alcohol fuelled stint working in a strip club to hauling his way up to the elite echelons of the defence forces.
But trouble hunted him down in the form of a brutal shark in February 2009. Paul lost two limbs, and his career as a daredevil navy clearance diver was flung into jeopardy. Drawing on everything his eventful life had taught him, Paul left nothing to chance in his recovery. He fought through excruciating pain, smashing challenge after challenge, and amazing the medical staff with his will to succeed. His inspiring story takes 'never say die' to a whole new level.
From rebel, drug dealer and strip club worker to adventurer, soldier, fitness enthusiast, Navy diver, shark attack survivor, top motivational speaker and mentor to schoolkids across Australia, Paul de Gelder is an exceptional young man. He is now determined to carve out the best future for himself he could possibly imagine. Paul is a true survivor and an incredible inspiration.

Excellent
Wow, awesome story, thank you.
Paul DeGelder No Time for Fear
I saw Paul speak at a conference recently and remembered his incident from the news. He was so totally honest, genuine and so---- inspirational -- that's not the right word but I don't think there is a right word for it. He has shown how our brain is stronger than our body and we can do anything or become anything we want in our short life. I am in awe of his strength physically and mentally and cannot recommend strongly enough that everyone should read his book of his life story and how he has overcome any adversity. It is a very emotional read and he makes you feel like you are going through what he has been through even though only Paul knows the hell or lows and highs of life that he has experienced. I feel that his experiences would be invaluable to be shared with our younger generation of today. To make them see that drugs, misuse of your body and other lowlife activities benefit not one person --- particularly yourself, family and friends. His strength is infective and I can only see it doing our young people a lifelong favour while he continues to share it with them. All the best Paul, you have made a difference to my life! How good is that?!
Great read
An inspiring and honest story of mental and physical toughness. More power to you Paul.
